This month, we’d like to introduce you to Lydiah Smith! Lydiah is a mom of two, and works the front desk and as a swim instructor for Carmel Swim Academy. We asked her a few questions so you could get to know her better:
How did you start working with CSA?
“I started working at CSA because I was a former swimmer and a new mom who missed the water. I wanted to find a way back into it that not only benefitted me, but also the community. CSA was and is the perfect place for just that!”
How would you describe the culture at the Carmel Swim Academy?
“Here I get to teach children what I consider a very important life skill, while also having fun. At CSA we have trained lifeguards that practice their life-saving skills every month with our director to ensure they don’t forget anything in case of emergency. With knowing that, it gives me confidence as an instructor to focus on teaching children safety in the water as well as their strokes.”
What is your favorite part about teaching lessons at CSA?
“My favorite part about teaching is honestly the halfway point in each session. I love seeing children that were once timid about putting their face in or floating on the water get comfortable and master these skills. The excitement in their faces of, “yay!!! I did it!” is so beautiful to me. It makes me feel great as the instructor that helped them get there.”
Why do you enjoy working at the Carmel Swim Academy?
“Overall my experience here at CSA has been phenomenal! The atmosphere here is so loving, we all just want to see the kids and each other thrive both in and out of the water. Everyone here, including the families that come, are like family to the staff and I just love working here to experience it. I can’t wait to see what else is in store for me in the future here at CSA!”
