Carmel Swim Academy’s proprietary swim lesson curriculum focuses on water safety through the four swimming strokes. In addition to giving you confidence that your swimmer is learning proper technique, they are also learning the proper names for the skills they’re learning: this empowers you to fully know what your swimmer is capable of. Today, we’re taking a closer look at the building blocks of backstroke – floating, gliding, kicking, and how it progresses through our curriculum for our three and four-year-old swimmers.
We start getting comfortable with the back float position in Hydros 1. As the swimmers gain confidence, we remove assistance and they increase their stamina floating independently. Once they have floating down, it’s time to add movement! We consistently begin with an instructor assist and then transition to independent gliding. Swimmers push off in a streamline. Once they have that body position down, we build by adding movement where they generate the power: kicking! Body position, stability, and a strong kick are the foundation to successful swimming. Check out how this skill progresses across the Hydros Series, the youngest group of central Indiana’s best swim lessons:
Carmel Swim Academy reinforces this key skill across ALL of our central Indiana swim lessons. Our programs build your child’s safety profile and your confidence!
