This month, we’d like to introduce you to Lena Yant! Lena works at Carmel Swim Academy as a water exercise instructor. We asked her a few questions so you could get to know her better.

How did you start working for CSA?
I’ve been teaching Aqua Group Exercise for ten years and word of mouth did me a huge favor in landing a position at Carmel Swim Academy. I was contacted through Carmel Clay Schools when the CSA facility was opening in hopes of being able to offer a new format of Group Fitness to their existing employee fitness program. Once I was in touch with Nicole we started building a schedule of Aqua classes to bring to the community here in Carmel.

How would you describe the culture at CSA?
CSA is a fantastic facility focused on the fundamentals of safety and growth in the water. I love seeing so many people in varying stages of their aquatic journey. Introductory classes with the littles, safety and skill building lessons, competition prep, everyday exercise, lifeguard certifications: CSA has it all!

Why do you think water fitness is important?
Water offers an environment that benefits every BODY. From young to old, any stage of fitness, beginners to advanced, once you hit the water your avenue for movement is opened up in an entirely different way. Low-to-no impact makes water an excellent option for anyone with joint issues; water lowers the anxiety and risk of falling for those with stability concerns; the resistance of the water will work your body with every single movement whether it be for slow and steady mobility or pushing for cardio and strength. I truly believe that taking your fitness into the water can be key to longevity in a healthy, active lifestyle.

What do you like most about working at CSA?
CSA is the first aquatic-specific facility that I have taught at, and oh boy is it a breath of fresh air!! Don’t get me wrong, I’m a “land instructor” as well and love teaching and taking group exercise classes “on land,” but to have the support of a group of people who just get what it takes to workout in the water?! It’s phenomenal!! The equipment, the facility, the staff, the participants: CSA is amazing. I am definitely an enthusiastic instructor, I love what I do, and I love getting to bring my skill set to CSA and share that love for fitness and the water with the community.
