Carmel Swim Academy’s proprietary swim lesson curriculum focuses on water safety through the four swimming strokes. In addition to giving you confidence that your swimmer is learning proper technique, they are also learning the proper names for the skills they’re learning: this empowers you to fully know what your swimmer is capable of. Today, we’re taking a closer look at how learning backstroke progresses through our curriculum.
Once swimmers have learned the basics of their body position and kick, we integrate arm movement. We start out in Hydros 1, our class for beginning three and four year olds, learning the motion. Then, Hydros 2 class works to grow comfortable with the motion. The swim class for five and six year olds, Neptune 2, works on refining the motion. We work towards independence: you can see our Hydros 3 swimmer performing the stroke independently, Triton 2 (our intermediate swim lesson level for seven to nine year olds) swimmer mastering the stroke, and our Triton 4 swimmer building endurance. The final step? Throwing on some speed in Carmel Swim Club!
