This month, we’d like to introduce you to Beth Foland! Beth works at Carmel Swim Academy as an instructor: she teaches adult swim lessons, Triton and Poseidon classes, and coaches Junior Swim League. We asked her a few questions so you could get to know her better.

Why did you start working for CSA?
I was teaching Adult Learn to Swim with a different organization twice a week for an eight-week session and loving it. But then they cut our hours back so I was only teaching for four weeks. I was disappointed and sad to not see my clients as often. I had recently completed my USMS Coaching certification for Levels 1 and 2 so decided to see what opportunities were out there.

How would you describe the culture at CSA?
The culture at CSA is upbeat and dedicated to creating a safe and fun environment where children can learn to swim.

Why do you think swim lessons are important?
Swimming is a critical skill for ALL PEOPLE to learn as it can save a life. It’s also great exercise and a sport with low impact that can be done throughout your life. I think it’s especially important for a parent to know basic swimming skills so they’re in the best position to help their child should the need arise.

What do you like most about working at CSA?
I love watching the joy on kid’s faces when they’re in the water. It’s also super rewarding to see them advance their skill levels. Since I also am passionate about swimming, it’s wonderful to see young swimmers find that passion as well.
